Cannabis Dispensaries
In addition to licensed cannabis dispensaries, a large number of illegal unlicensed cannabis dispensaries are open across LAC that sell a variety of cannabis products such as edibles and vapes, some of which are of high dosage or potency and do not comply with regulations.
Storefronts in LAC
In LAC, there were at least 359 cannabis dispensary storefronts with active retail licenses as of February 2026 (Figure 1).
Many more unlicensed cannabis dispensaries also exist in LAC.
Some cannabis businesses that offer delivery services can substantially expand their reach beyond customers that visit the physical storefronts.

Storefronts by LAC Regions
From 2019 to 2026, SPA 4 – Metro had the largest number of licensed cannabis stores each year compared to other regions in LAC. In February 2026, there were 100 licensed storefronts in SPA 4, followed by SPA 2 – San Fernando (96 stores), SPA 8 – South Bay (56 stores), and SPA 6 – South (40 stores) (Figure 2).
THC Potency
THC is the main psychoactive component of cannabis. Over the last two decades, the THC potency of cannabis products seized by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) from the illegal cannabis marketplace in the US has been on an increasing trend, from 4.0% in 1995 to 16.1% in 2022 (Figure 3).
